Artist Date: Willard Brook State Forest 25.6.2016

I have been way, WAY overdue for an Artist Date... and I am embarrassed to say that the last one that I wrote about took place LAST September when I started the last painting in my I Ching series... and that was approximately 9 months ago. That is not to say I have not had them, I just haven't been writing about them.

When I began this blog, my original goal was to post an Artist Date on a monthly basis and, to be honest... well, that kind of fell apart fairly quickly. BUT I do see some benefits from posting these, so I will make more of an effort going forward to post my Artists Dates more often.

My view yesterday afternoon of Willard Brook

I had an opportunity yesterday afternoon to spend a couple of hours at Willard Brook State Forest and it was exactly what I needed. For those unfamiliar with Willard Brook, it is located on Route 119 in Ashby and Townsend, MA.

I had approximately two hours to myself to enjoy the scenery and work on blocking in my new picture. I find that working in such a peaceful environment allows me to just allow the picture to develop on it's own... no judgement, no forcing the picture to conform to a pre-conceived ideal... it becomes almost like a moving meditation.

Not all Artist Dates need to be exciting... some days you just need to sit in the shade by a brook, listen to the water and to your inner voice.
